So, in part to embrace my domesticity, and in part to make fun of it-I have created this blog. I will share recipes, thoughts about life as a woman, shopping secrets and anything else I really feel like. It will be my outlet for my little whims and for my realization of growing older and becoming a woman.
Inspired by my recent acquisition of ample free time, my passion for cooking/baking and the movie Julie and Julia I will update weekly on topics I deem fit. Please enjoy this journey with me!
I don't necessarily support this definition but I am intrigued by it. I will both support and question aspects of this definition for as long as this blog survives in my life:
According to the ideals of the cult of domesticity, women were supposed to embody perfect virtue in all senses. The women who abided by and promoted these standards were generally literate and lived in the northeast, particularly New York and Massachusetts. Women were put in the center of the domestic sphere and were expected to fulfill the roles of a calm and nurturing mother, a loving and faithful wife, and a passive, delicate, and virtuous creature. These women were also expected to be pious and religious, teaching those around them by their Christian beliefs, and expected to unfailingly inspire and support their husbands.
Do we as modern women, still fulfill these roles? Should we? What is my place in this world? For today? Tomorrow?
I won't always be so deep, but I want to make clear my premise for the blog! I am excited to explore the frivolous and the thoughtful and I hope to hear your thoughts and comments as well.
